Los Angeles is in constant motion. People walk the sidewalks and crosswalks night and day. And of course, the vehicle traffic never stops either. That mix can be especially hazardous for pedestrians. Big cities pass initiatives to make foot traffic safer, but a careless driver can negate any efforts to keep walkers out of harm’s way.

A driver can be distracted, miss seeing a pedestrian, and cause a terrible accident.  A person injured or killed in a collision with a car is tragic enough, but sometimes drivers make another terrible decision.  They speed away from the scene.

In these heartbreaking cases, a victim can be left with serious injuries and in the worst cases be robbed of life.  It’s important to remember that even though an at-fault driver is not identified, the victim or the victim’s family can file a claim to get support in the aftermath.

South Los Angeles Deadly Hit-And-Run Accident

Police are searching for a driver thought to be involved with a hit-and-run accident that killed a man on Thursday night.  CBSLA reported on the South Los Angeles accident on July 16, 2020.

According to the LAPD, the male pedestrian was struck on Vernon Avenue and San Pedro Street around 10:40 p.m. The victim was taken to the hospital where he died.

A suspect in a 2011-2015 light-colored Dodge Charger was last seen heading east on Vernon Street. There was no immediate description of the driver.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage

In a tragic hit-and-run incident, the reason the driver took off may never be known.  Closure for a deceased victim’s family can be hard to find in such a devastating case.

For victims or their families, standard uninsured motorist coverage can help provide for financial damages when a driver went unidentified.  Assistance paying for any hospital bills, funeral costs and even recovery for lost wages the victim would have earned are all possible.

A victim should be protected by his or her insurance policy. If not, a family member who has a policy may find that its coverage extends to include other blood relatives who live in the same house.

Uninsured motorist insurance is inexpensive, and at a minimum, it provides you with at least some protection against dangerous drivers, some of whom don’t even carry car insurance.
