Several transportation network companies (TNCs) like Uber operate in and around Los Angeles. Like anybody else who takes to the road, there’s always the chance that the TNC vehicle will be in an accident. Sometimes a passenger who is being transported is injured when those accidents occur. For purposes of documenting the accident and injuries, the accident must be reported.

Reporting the Accident to Police

The fact that you’re not the owner or operator of a vehicle that was involved in an accident is irrelevant for purposes of reporting it. You were a passenger who was injured in that crash, so you have every right to call 911 to report it. When you speak with the 911 operator, ask that a police officer be sent to the accident scene to perform an investigation and complete a report. Since you were injured in the accident, you also have every right to ask for paramedics to be sent to the scene to treat you and transport you to an emergency room. You can’t trust that your Uber or TNC driver is going to notify the company that they partner with about the accident. Although we don’t recommend it, you might want to notify that company of the accident and your injuries yourself. In order to notify Uber of an accident, contact the claims department of James River Insurance Company by mail. The address follows:

If you retain our law firm to represent you, we’ll take care of the claim notice. Again, we really don’t recommend that you make the claim notice yourself or represent yourself, and we strongly recommend that you don’t provide any type of a written or recorded statement about the accident or your injuries. It might only be used against you sometime in the future to attack your credibility in efforts to devalue your claim.

Personal injury claims and litigation get complicated with Uber and other TNCs, especially when one or more other insurance companies are involved. Delays in your claim notice, and treatment are only going to hurt your case. You’ll want our experienced and aggressive Los Angeles Uber accident lawyer representing your interests. Call us right away after being injured in any Uber or TNC accident, and we’ll arrange for a free consultation and claim evaluation. We’ll listen to you carefully, answer your questions and advise you of your legal options. If we enter into a retainer agreement with you, no legal fees at all are due unless we obtain a settlement or verdict for you. Contact us right away after being injured in any Uber or TNC crash. We’ll be with you every step of the way.
