The decade-long reduction in traffic fatalities has yet to reach both pedestrian and hit and run deaths. In Los Angeles, both are on the rise and it has safety experts scratching their heads. A report by CBSN LA said that over the last five years—2104 to 2019—hit and run fatalities in LA has risen a staggering 69%.

The LA Times reported that pedestrian deaths were up 80% from 2015 to 2017 which matches numbers coming from many cities across the U.S.

Jogger Killed by Hit and Run Driver in Santa Anna

Police responded to a call about an accident and arrived to find a man lying in the street. The man was declared dead at the scene and there was no sign of the driver who hit him. Police say that the victim was wearing jogging shoes and had earbuds in making them believe that he was out jobbing.

The accident happened around 11 pm Monday, May 18, 2020, on South Raitt St near West St Ann Place. A security camera from a nearby home showed that the man was hit by a white four-door sedan that left, turned around, and came back and then left again. Police are still investigating the incident and are looking for the driver of the car.

Pedestrian Hit and Run Accidents and Injuries

Once a pedestrian has been struck by a car, time is against the victim as injuries are often life-threatening. If the driver leaves the scene, the pedestrian may not get help for some time. This is critical for the victim.

Other problems become apparent when the victim needs financial compensation for the injuries. If the person is never found, then the victim is denied compensation from the at-fault driver’s insurance policy.

At the Law Offices of Steers & Associates, we are aware of the struggles both hit and run and pedestrians face. A pedestrian is largely unprotected and is vulnerable to serious injuries. Over the years, we’ve seen some injuries that have been common to pedestrian accidents. Some of these are:

  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Blunt Force Trauma
  • Broken/Displaced Ribs
  • Fractured Arms/Legs
  • Broken Collarbone
  • Organ Damage
  • Spinal Cord Damage
  • Nerve Damage
  • Severe Lacerations

Compensation For Injuries

At the Law Offices of Steers & Associates, we know where to look for other sources of compensation. If the victim has their own auto insurance policy, for example, then that might be a source of compensation.

If this has happened to you, you know how frustrating the whole process is. Do yourself a favor and come talk to one of our attorneys who can help you get compensation for your injuries.
