As of April 15, 2015, Los Angeles has a tiered reward program for information on hit and run accidents to incentivize witnesses to provide police with information. The rewards for information are:
- $50,000 for a fatal injury;
- $25,000 for a permanent, serious injury
- $5,000 for an injury other than a “permanent serious injury”
- $1,000 for property damage.
Information provided must lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who fled the scene.
Prior to this ordinance, rewards were offered on a case by case basis.
